December 6, 2011 Jungle Tour- Fort Pierce, FL

The first picture is of a pretty common little guy in mangrove islands. Very shy, but with interesting colors and markings, this is a mangrove crab which along with the hermit crab are the only crabs to use trees as an escape mechanism. They can do this because of the sharp tips on their legs that dig into the tree branches. We mostly see these on the red mangroves where although they are omnivores they consume leaves. Thanks to our guests James, Sr. his lovely wife Denny and their son James, Jr. The water was like a sheet of glass, very relaxing as you can see in the second picture. Thanks also to the mother river dolphin and her baby which put in an appearance to the delight of everyone. Thanks to our photgrapher Dave and to Linda our assistant guide who did a great job keeping everyone together and setting the pace.
